Save the date! April 2, 2010 Elizabeth Galecke Photography celebrates 15 years!

I can’t belive it is here already- it feels like 10 was just yesterday! I have been searching my soul for something special to exhibit in celebration and last weekend, it came to me. I am soooo excited! I have been working with quite a few different non-profits over the years, but I have never shown any 0f the work- other than what the organizations used them for- So, I have decided to edit through my images, and present a show with these images. This is the kind of work that is closest to my heart- work that hopefully makes a difference, and work that has definitely changed the way I look at life. I will be pairing these images with information about the organizations, as well as personal notes from what I discovered or took away from each of these sessions. I am also hoping to raise some funds for each of the organizations. Raffle maybe??? I will keep you posted!

I am in the process of contacting the organizations, so far I have confirmed Make A Wish of Eastern NorthCarolina, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and Easter Seals UCP of North Carolina.  The exhibit will be at Epona and Oak, and amazing local Gallery/Boutique in Historic City Market, downtown Raleigh. We will have our celebration and reception on the First Friday Art Walk . More info to come as I get it organized!

Cool Photography happenings in the Triangle

The next few months there are some really great photography exhibits in the Raleigh/Durham area. Last week I went to a film viewing and q&a with one of my favorite photographers, Mary Ellen Mark and her husband, Martin Bell. She worked on a documentary project in Iceland photographing children living with disabilities. The film by her husband was incredibly moving. It focused on one boy and his family and how they live. The center where this boy was attending school offered a musical instrument with strings in the form of a cradle that the child lays in- the vibration from the strings and the rocking of the cradle soothes the children. It was so amazing and sweet. Mary Ellen’s exhibit showing at Duke Documentary Studies will show her images of all of the children. I am so excited to go and see it.I have been working with Easter Seals UCP of North Carolina on a project documenting children and adults living with disabilities- and I think it will be so interesting to see her work on the subject!

Photo by Andy Warhol, Nasher Museum

There is also an Andy Warhol exhibit at the Nasher of his Polaroids as well as some black and white images. They are images of celebrities taken between 1970 and 1985. I was thinking about setting up a trip to Durham- a day of food and photography, my two passions…It would be such a fun day- going to museums and then hanging out at one of the amazing local resturaunts drinking wine and enjoying local cuisine. I am considering setting up a group for fun, no cost except for gallery fees and food, either in mid-December or early January. If you are interested, place a comment below and I will keep you posted!
